Course summary

Please note that Combined Honours degrees at Liverpool Hope University are split 50/50. This means both subjects will be studied equally. This is a four year degree taught on our Hope Park campus. The Foundation Year aims to develop your skills so that after a year, you will be equipped with the necessary skills needed for studying the full BA Hons degree programme. Contemporary Fashion Design The fashion industry is worth c£62BN to the UK economy and consistently employs some 400,000 people. However, there are powerful changes afoot in the industry around the world that seek to address the environmental damage; exploitative business models and employment conditions that are so often attached to it - especially so in fast fashion. There is also a growing awareness across the industry of the need for the design of clothing and accessories that are inclusive; a need to embrace fashion design for disability with ‘adaptive fashion.’ Liverpool Hope BA Contemporary Fashion Design; will be the first undergraduate option to study these concerns and become the first dedicated undergraduate fashion with a conscience programme available in the UK HEI sector. Contemporary Fashion Design will be centered around the body; materials and an understanding and knowledge of sustainable and ethical living. The diversity of our workshops - which range from traditional technologies through to our digital Fab Lab - will ensure a diversity of production and design around the fundamentals of tactility and materiality. Ethical production - the exploration of materials and low waste production methodologies - will be core to the programme providing students with an understanding of sustainability and ethical living - in short, fashion design for a healthier future. The programme will provide an environment that enables rich interdisciplinary approaches at undergraduate level which will include working on live briefs and competitions and engaging in established links Psychology Psychology is the study of people, with a particular focus on individuals. Knowledge and skills cultivated within the discipline enable practitioners to intervene at personal, inter personal and systemic levels in order to enable people to live better lives. Choice of programmes allows students to study a course that reflects their prior interests, lived experience, or future goals. Ethical practice and working within a shared set of values is also important to us; our University is deeply committed to serving the common good. We see Psychology as a discipline with the capacity, and responsibility, to make a positive contribution to how people live in everyday life. In our teaching of Psychology, we strive to enable our students to grow into constructive citizens who are curious about people, and motivated to make a positive difference to the lives of others. Beyond classroom learning, there are opportunities to enrich your chosen programme of study in a way that will help you in developing your psychological thinking. They include going on a placement, working as a research assistant in a laboratory, travelling to another country as part of Global Hope, or under the Erasmus study abroad scheme.

Applicants must achieve a minimum of 72 UCAS points for entry on to this course. UCAS Tariff points can be made up from a range of qualifications. There may be some flexibility for mature students offering non-tariff qualifications and students meeting particular widening participation criteria.
