Course summary

Our MSc Human Resource Management provides you with a comprehensive understanding of the key principles and evolving practices in human resource (HR) management. You will gain the confidence to challenge conventional workplace practices, backed by a solid theoretical foundation. Through engaging with real-world case studies, you will learn to evaluate the impact of key HR issues such as staff development, retention, workload, and financial outcomes. The programme emphasises both strategic and operational aspects of HR. Combining theoretical frameworks with practical application, MSc Human Resource Management equips you with the advanced skills and critical thinking required to excel in the fast-evolving HR profession. CIPD accreditation Accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the programme can provide immediate student CIPD membership. If you choose this option, you will become an Associate Member (Level 7) upon graduation (subject to successful completion of all module assessments). The CIPD plays a central role in shaping and promoting high standards in the HR and people management profession, and is recognised internationally. Core HR concepts You will explore essential HR concepts such as recruitment and selection, career development, employee wellbeing, and employment relations, with a strong emphasis on employee voice and engagement. You will examine how organisations address and navigate challenges such as workforce diversity and the impact of technological development on people management. Leading organisational change and ethical practice A module on organisational studies and managing change will help you understand the human dynamics involved in leading transformation and fostering resilience in teams. You will gain insight into how organisations function internally and externally, learning how to align HR strategies with broader business goals. Ethical reflections are emphasised throughout the programme, ensuring you are prepared to lead responsibly and with integrity. Taught by experts The programme is taught by distinguished academics recognised as leaders in their fields. Through their industry connections, they bring real-world HR experience into the classroom. As part of the programme, you can go on a study visit to the CIPD Conference and Exhibition in Manchester, UK. Interactive learning You will experience interactive learning methods, including role-playing exercises and group projects. You have the opportunity to apply your learning in business scenarios. For example, you may participate in negotiation exercises or manage fictional performance appraisal processes, giving you a safe and practical environment to develop key professional competencies.

Assessment method

Assessment is by coursework, examinations and a dissertation.


Entry requirements

2:2 Hons degree (UK or equivalent) in Management, Business Studies, Social Sciences, History, Philosophy, English, Languages, Arts or other Humanities. Relevant work experience is beneficial but not essential. We may also consider non-standard applicants. Please contact us for information. We require an IELTS (Academic) Test with an overall score of at least 6.5, and a minimum of 6.0 in each element of the test. We also consider other English language qualifications.
