Course summary
The foundation year of this Coventry University degree will be delivered from our CU Coventry campus. Course delivery from year 1 of the degree onwards will be from Coventry University campus. This course aims to provide you with a solid grounding for a career in quantity surveying and commercial management. The foundation year will introduce you to the world of business with a sharp focus on aspects of management, business communications and marketing in a global context. The foundation year creates opportunities for students to develop key business skills and to put theory, both traditional and contemporary, into practice with real-world scenarios. Students who successfully complete their foundation year will then progress onto the Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management BSc (Hons) degree within Coventry University’s School of Energy, Construction and Environment. The degree covers construction cost estimating, including aspects of refurbishment and maintenance cost, procurement, quantification of elements using both traditional and electronic techniques, value management and contract/commercial issues. Aiming to develop contemporary skills such as the use of digital software for quantification and cost management the degree will use live, upcoming or recently completed projects to enable application of skills and knowledge learned in an industry specific and contextualised manner. Modules
The foundation year will introduce you to the world of business with a sharp focus on aspects of management, business communications and marketing in a global context. This course has a common first degree year which enables you to work alongside students doing similar courses to you, to widen your knowledge and exposure to other subject areas and professions. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with other students, so you can share your insights and experience which will help you to develop and learn. If you discover an interest in a specific subject you have studied, upon successful completion of your first year, you could swap degrees with another course in your common first year (subject to meeting progression requirements).
