Course summary
The aim of this HNC Building Services Engineering is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals who can meet the needs of employers in the construction sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. Students will develop knowledge of construction and building services linked to practical skills acquired through research, directed study, independent study, and workplace scenarios. On this specialist pathway, you will learn the principles of electrical installation as well as the principles of electrical theory. The advanced unit in electrical installation will involve you in detailed and in-depth study of electronics and electrical installation. Students will be shown how to apply this knowledge, for example in the use of electrical circuit components. By the end of the programme, you should be capable of carrying out checks and tests on intelligent buildings, as well as the installation of advanced components to control temperature, lighting and building entrances and exits. Two years part-time with one full day attendance per week, or one year full-time with two full day attendance per week. 6 hours for part-time course or 12 hours for full-time course. Each unit is worth 15 credits and over the course of the programme you will gain 120 credits Students can continue their studies and progress to a Level 5 HND, and following this may progress to study at degree level. In year 2, you will study: Principles of Alternative Energy Construction Design Project (Pearson-set) Digital Applications for Building Information Modelling Principles of Electrical Design and installation.

All applications will be considered individual merit. However, offers will usually be based on: 64 Ucas Tariff Points BTEC Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject. Other related Level 3 qualifications. Normally 4 GCSEs at grade C or above (or numeric score of 4/5 under newly reformed GCSE grading), including Maths and English. An Access to Higher Education Diploma in a relevant area. Related work experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications
