Become A Legend In The Esports World With Our Guidance. The Esports course is designed to give students an overview of the Esports industry. The focus of the program is based around units that provide valuable skills that anyone working in the Esports industry requires. One of the exciting elements of this program is that the skills learnt on the course are transferable to many modern businesses. The focus on Esports promotes opportunities for students to gain the necessary skills to participate in, promote and run Esports events. Esports is an international sporting phenomenon within the global and digital marketplace, in 2021 the community had more than 3.24 billion video gamers across the globe. Gaming as an overall demographic has a very large audience with the 14-25 age range, with a lot of young people aspiring for careers within the industry. Either as professional Esports athletes or within other roles such as event organising, coaching, video production and supporting roles.

Modules

Year 1: The Pearson BTEC Higher National qualifications in Esports encompass a range of core and specialist modules designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Esports industry. The course structure includes: Core Mandatory Units: • Esports Ecosystem: Understanding the structure and dynamics of the global Esports market. • Skills and Tactics Analysis: Analytical skills for game strategies and performance improvement. • Event Planning and Delivery: The fundamentals of organizing and managing Esports events. • Planning an Esports Project: Project management skills tailored to the Esports industry. Specialist Units: • Entrepreneurial Ventures: Insights into starting and managing entrepreneurial ventures in Esports. • Branding and Sponsorship: Strategies for branding and securing sponsorships in the Esports domain. • Tournament Operations: Operational aspects of organizing and executing Esports tournaments. Optional Units: • Ethics and Fair Play: Ethical considerations and promoting fair play in Esports. • Game Design Philosophy: Understanding the principles of game design and its impact on Esports. • Governance and Legislation: Legal frameworks and governance structures within the Esports industry. Level 4 Specialist Units in Areas Such as: • Operations Management: Focused on the operational aspects of running Esports ventures. • Production: Covering the production and broadcasting aspects of Esports events. • Athlete Support and Development: Focused on coaching, health, and logistical support for Esports athletes. These modules are designed to equip students with a broad skill set, encompassing both the business and technical aspects of Esports, preparing them for a variety of roles within the industry.

Assessment method

The course has a strong vocational focus and you will be taught through a combination of lectures, vocational projects, visits, case studies, individual and group tasks. You will work on a series of assignments based on real-life scenarios throughout the course, which will help you develop the practical knowledge, and skills, employers and universities are looking for. The BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Esports builds underpinning core skills effectively, preparing students for further subject specialisation at Level 5. They will gain a wide range of sector knowledge that is tied to practical skills gained in research, self-study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Alongside College attendance, you will be expected to undertake 10-12 hours of independent study each week, such as reading journal articles and books, undertaking research and preparing for assessments. Your independent study is supported by online resources managed by your module tutors, alongside the Learning Hub at the Aireville Campus and the College’s Study Support Team. The average class size will be 8-10 students. You will also receive an individual tutorial session each semester. Your independent study is supported by the excellent Learning Hub at the Aireville Campus in addition to the College’s Study Support Centre.
