Course summary
St Mary’s provides teachers and education-related professionals with a stimulating, welcoming and supportive environment in which they have the opportunity to work alongside a strong community of fellow professionals. The programme has the following aims:

Modules
Specialist options include: Curriculum development and primary education; early years education; leadership for learning; English and literacy in the curriculum; Irish and Irish-medium education; pastoral issues; effective teaching; special education; developing physical education, school sport and coaching; leaders in Catholic schools.
Assessment method
All accredited modules are assessed by coursework. There are no formal, written examinations. Results are made available following the examination process which may take up to eight weeks to complete. Results for the dissertation module and details of awards are made available in December, in time for Christmas graduation at the University. Distinction or commendation may be awarded on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners.
Entry requirements
Candidates for admission to the Masters programme in Education should normally hold either: Qualified teacher status and an honours degree or equivalent qualification or An honours degree or equivalent qualification with at least two years’ professional experience in an educational, training or professionally related context.
