Our one-year PGDE courses allow you to qualify as a secondary school teacher in your specialist subject. If you want to make a career teaching English in secondary schools, this course is for you. This approach will help you grow your motivation, confidence and creativity to help you succeed in the classroom.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

Entry requirements
Qualification requirements
A degree (Honours or Ordinary) validated by a university in the United Kingdom or a degree of an equivalent standard from an institution outside the United Kingdom. Degree must include at least 80 SCQF credits in English. 40 of these SCQF credits should come from at least one of the following subjects: - English literature (this can include English Translation) - Scottish literature - A maximum of 20 SCQF credit points in Media Studies We also require SQA Higher English at Grade C or equivalent as well as SQA National 5 Mathematics or SQA National 5 Applications of Mathematics at grade C or equivalent.
