Course summary

The Pearson BTEC Higher National Certificate in Computing-Security, is designed to train tomorrow’s security professionals, combining fundamental concepts and principles with exposure to current technologies and solutions. You will gain a practical understanding of key issues relating to the design, analysis and implementation of modern IT security systems. Also, you’ll develop understanding of how network security systems function and how they might be abused and how security fits into business and commerce through applied learning. In addition to the knowledge, understanding and practical skills that underpin the study, Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals Certificate in Computing-Security, gives students the experience of the breadth and depth of the sector, which will prepare them for further study, training or to pursue a wide array of career pathways within the public, private and charity sectors.

Modules

Students will develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of the computing sector at Level 4 through six core units (mandatory) which include one unit assessed by a Pearson-set assignment and two further optional units at Level 4. The units are: Core Units: Programming Networking Professional Practice Database Design & Development Security Managing a Successful Computing Project (Pearson-set) Optional units: Strategic Information Systems Computer Systems Architecture Cisco “CCNAv7” materials are embedded in the BTEC L4 HNC in computing-Security- programme. The course will also develop a broad range of transferable skills, which include communicating, team work, planning & organising, problem solving, IT skills and numerical techniques.

Assessment method

Assessment is through a series of assignments including 95% written assignments, 3% group work, 1% presentations and 1% time-constrained assessments. the grades in each subject unit are shown as: pass merit distinction

All students who are non-native English speakers and who have not undertaken their final two years of schooling in English, must demonstrate capability in English at a standard equivalent to IELTS 5.5; Reading and Writing must be at 5.5 or equivalent.

Additional fee information

The fees quoted for home students are for one year of study and include tuition, exam fee, ID card (which gives access to the college and facilities e.g. library) and college registration. The fees quoted for overseas students are tuition fees only – you will be required to pay an additional amount for course materials, exam fees, registration (£125) and ID. This additional charge depends on the course you are following and will be £100 to £500. We will notify you of this charge as early as we can.
