Course summary
The educational aims of the Sport Business Management degree are grounded in the University’s mission to provide a supportive, yet challenging teaching and learning environment aimed at fully enhancing your knowledge, professional skills and employability within the courses interrelated subject foci. The programme will appeal to those with an interest in sport and those seeking employment within the sport-related business sector. The course is underpinned by academic theory related to professional sport, sport and leisure, and will involve you in the application of concepts in industry-related scenarios and realistic simulations. In this way, students will develop and apply the skills of critical evaluation and it is intended become self-directed, independent, reflexive learners. Students will be introduced to a range of business based units to support their knowledge and understanding of the largest sporting economies; developing skills to be able to identify and analyse opportunities for the market. Students will consider the growth of the sector both within the UK but also globally and develop their business acumen related to a range of issues faced within the sport as its use for economic development. Students will access a network of staff across the School who have experience and knowledge of working for and within professional organisations including the Football Association (FA) and their associate County bodies as well as a range of Professional and Semi Professional Organisations and community based teams. Students will be supported to develop their research and analytical skills to support them in identifying and undertaking relevant project development. Alongside this you will be supported to develop your knowledge and understanding through the use of industry and sector insight. Overall this course has been designed to support you in acquiring the necessary personal competencies, practical skill-sets and subject expertise needed to seek a future within the sport business industry.
