Course summary
The Brunel Integrated PhD combines PhD research with a programme of structured research, professional and subject training. The programme typically takes 4 years (compared to 3 years for a non-integrated PhD programme). On successful completion, you will be awarded a PhD with an Integrated Postgraduate Diploma in Research in your chosen subject specialisation. The Brunel Integrated PhD programme differs from several other UK integrated PhDs in that you begin work on your PhD research right from the start of the programme. The programme of taught modules runs in parallel to your research work during the first three years of study, with the fourth year providing time for you to focus on writing up your PhD thesis. Other distinctive features of the Brunel Integrated PhD include the highly tailored support provided by staff, the flexibility of the taught programme to fit around research commitments and the benefits of membership of a cross-university cohort of Integrated PhD researchers.
Entry requirements
The general University entrance requirement for registration for a research degree is normally a First or Upper Second Class Honours degree. All international students must show evidence that they meet the English requirement for their course of study. IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in any section) This applies even if English is the native language of your home country. An appropriate level of English language competence is also expected. Applicants may also be required to attend compulsory in-sessional English language support. The Senate reserves the right to assess the eligibility of applicants on an individual basis.
