About the course This course aims to provide the Travel and Tourism student with a comprehensive and flexible framework for education and training in line with professional accreditation requirements, which would facilitate safe practice within both the Travel & Tourism sectors. The HNC in International Travel and Tourism Management qualifies students to move directly to employment and work within the travel and tourism and hospitality industry. Students that successfully complete the HNC and HND programmes traditionally progress to one of the following areas: Related Degree Programmes- Students have the option to progress onto the HND programme which also is offered at SERC (depending on application numbers). This course also provides students with extensive opportunities for further study of a top up degree, at higher level, studying at some of these UK universities, The University of Central Lancashire, based in Preston, Liverpool John Moores and University of Ulster. Entry can range from Year 1, 2 or final year entry depending on grades achieved and individual university entrance criteria set per year. Employment- This Higher National programme has been designed to equip students with the knowledge required to thrive in the changing world of work. Roles may include, but are not limited to: • Event Planning - Organise and coordinate all aspects of events, from concept and budgeting to logistics and execution, ensuring a seamless and memorable experience for clients and attendees. • Travel Management - Overseeing and coordinating all aspects of business travel, including itinerary planning, vendor negotiation, cost control, and ensuring a smooth travel experience for employees or clients. • Destination Marketing - Promoting a specific location to attract visitors, enhance brand awareness, and boost local tourism through strategic campaigns and partnerships.
Modules
Level 4 Modules: The Contemporary Travel and Tourism Industry - Enables you to develop an overall appreciation of the international tourism experience, understanding the structure and systems within the contemporary travel and tourism industry, examining the interactions between the different elements of the industry, such as accommodation provision, transportation, attractions, and both the different tourism settings and experiences. Managing the Customer Experience - Provides you with background knowledge and understanding of how travel and tourism businesses manage the customer experience from the initial needs analysis through to after sales follow-up. Professional Identity and Practice - Guides you through the process of self-assessment of skills and competences, personal career planning and the application of different learning and development approaches within a work environment. The Travel and Tourism Business Toolkit - Provides students with the skills they need to become competent managers in a travel and tourism environment. Leadership and Management for Service Industries (Pearson-set) - Enables you to gain understanding of leadership and management principles, and to review your potential for a career in management in the service sector. Global Tourism Destinations - Provides you with an understanding of the scale, nature and development of tourism at a global level. Visitor Attraction Management - Enables you to gain a further understanding of visitor attractions on a global scale, whilst also considering visitor types, motivations and their impacts, along with management techniques and issues which may affect the development process. Work Experience - Enables you to develop personal and professional skills by engaging in practical tasks and activities within a relevant workplace. Courses are continually reviewed to take advantage of new teaching approaches and developments in research, industry and the professions. Assessment method
Assessment is scheduled throughout the course using a combination of assessment methods, including examinations, e-portfolio, coursework, Project Based Learning, presentations, practical, posters, leaflets, role-play, and case studies. Each unit is graded individually with an overall single final grade (Pass, Merit, or Distinction) awarded at the end of the course. Students are assessed using a range of methods. These may include: Coursework: You will be asked to complete research and/or report on your development activities in a formal report. Presentations: Students will present their findings to peers with some external entities involved where appropriate. Practical: You may be asked to demonstrate your skills by completing assigned tasks/activities. This is dependent on the requirements of each unit of study. Oral, written or online feedback will be provided during the course to help improve and monitor performance.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
