Our MSc Applied Sport Performance Analysis degree offers you an excellent platform to develop advanced knowledge and the skills to analyse and develop performance in elite sport. These have been designed to test and develop the broad range of competencies required of an elite performance analyst. The course will also challenge you to develop a wider understanding of how to create effective learning environments, high-performance cultures and work on your own communication and inter-personal skills. All vital areas to achieve impact from the insights acquired through performance analysis projects. Study runs across three terms from October to September. The course will focus on the science, workflows and applied practice of performance analysis and how it interacts with and supports the coaching and decision-making process. You will develop your understanding of sports analytics and visualization and how to tell impactful stories using complex data sets. During your course you will immerse yourself in performance analysis support, performing an extended placement with either Loughborough University performance athletes or external sport partners. This will help you develop and test your skills in an applied setting, providing additional opportunities to analyse and reflect on your own professional practice and develop robust plans for your continuing personal development. The programme culminates with an applied independent research project which runs through to the end of the programme. During this period, you will apply the knowledge and techniques you have learned to answer an applied sport performance analysis question that will further develop your understanding of the subject area. A 2:1 (or equivalent international qualification) in Sport Science or a related programme (sport coaching, sport performance analysis). Alternatively, a 2:1 in a mathematics, statistics or data science course with sufficient evidence of engagement and interest in sport and sports performance. Applicants need to have prior experience in performance analysis delivery or demonstrate training and engagement with performance analysis hardware and software and/or performance analysis research. Applicants will also need to secure an appropriate performance analysis placement to be accepted onto the programme. Students may also incur travel costs associated with travelling between the placement provider and Loughborough University.
