Course summary
This wide-ranging course will develop your knowledge of different periods of history from around 1500 to the twentieth century. You’ll tackle such exciting and challenging issues as power and warfare, culture and beliefs, health and medicine, imperialism, race, class and gender. You’ll begin to develop the skills of the historian in studying historical materials; exploring how we understand, interpret and debate past events; and investigating a range of critical approaches. Modules
This diploma has two stages, each comprising two modules. Stage 1 consists of an introductory module in the arts and humanities followed by beginning your study of history with the module Revolutions. In this module you'll examine four periods of swift and radical change: the Reformation, the French Revolution, the aftermath of World War I, and the 1960s. Next, in Stage 2, you will take two history modules, one focusing on Europe between 1500 and 1780 and the other focusing on the British Isles 1789–1914.
