Primary instrument/specialism
- Musical Theatre
The application deadline for this course is 1 NOVEMBER 2023. The intensive one-year MA programme trains postgraduate (or equivalent) students for a career in musical theatre. It provides a direct link into the profession by combining regular class work and one-to-one tuition with practical opportunities. Musical Theatre students have individual singing lessons, repertoire coaching and spoken word tutorials, as well as classes in voice and the spoken word, extended vocal techniques, dance, movement, acting, singing, improvisation, history of musical theatre, musicality, audition preparation and project work. They also take part in masterclasses and workshops with visiting professionals, the annual industry showcase, and in full end-of-year Musical Theatre productions accompanied by the Academy's orchestral ensembles. For information about the Musical Direction and Coaching specialism, you are welcome to contact the Musical Theatre office on [email protected].
During the application and audition process, you must select which instrument(s) you wish to specialise in for the duration of your course. On this course, you can choose from the following options:
Only one specialism is studied. It may be possible to study a further instrument, but this will not contribute towards the qualification.
For all courses, you must select at least one specialism from the 'primary' list. For those studying primary/secondary pathways, two instruments may be selected – one from the 'primary' list and one from the 'secondary' list. Joint pathway students may select any two instruments from either list.
