Course summary
Develop the knowledge, expertise and attitude you need to launch your career as a registered nurse. You’ll be responsible for leading and coordinating care. Please note applicants must be 18 years old by the course start date. Immerse yourself in physically, intellectually and emotionally challenging study. This degree will prepare you for an extremely rewarding career. As part of this course, you’ll:
- Have access to diverse placement opportunities, including Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and Leeds Community Healthcare Trust, within secondary and regional care units, community teams and GP practices
- Spend 50% of your time on practice placements
- Develop the practical skills needed to care for adults with acute and long-term illnesses across a variety of settings
- Focus on areas of personal interest within healthcare during the volunteering strand of the course
- Working with the medical services at Leeds and Download Festivals

Students will be recruited on the basis that their values align with those of the NHS Constitution, as well as having the right skills and aptitude, in accordance with Value Based Recruitment (Health Education England, Value Based Recruitment Framework, October 2014) and if selected will need to attend an interview. Your UCAS personal statement should include: 1. How you have researched the profession of adult health nursing. 2. Any experience you have of engaging with vulnerable people or working within settings such as hospitals or nursing homes. 3. How you have gained insight into the course e.g. Open days, reading through materials on course webpages or speaking to nurses. 4. Your personal qualities which you feel are related to nursing, including what motivates you to choose nursing as a career. 5. You must also be able to demonstrate how you meet the NMC Key Competencies through the application process. In your personal statement you must provide examples of how you meet the basic skills required for nursing in numeracy, communications, physicality, relationships and IT skills. Practical Experience: Care experience in an adult health practice/clinical setting, such as an acute hospital or a nursing home is desirable but not a mandatory requirement. If you are unable to demonstrate this, you should have experience of engaging with vulnerable people.
