Are you ready to gain advanced knowledge of viral, bacterial, fungal and parasitic infections and how they are diagnosed and treated? You will be taught state of the art techniques by internationally recognised academics and receive guest lectures from industry leaders in the field of microbiology from the NHS and the UK Health Security Agency. Our graduates have gone on to career paths with well-known public and private sectors employers including the NHS trust labs in Nottingham, and NASA space agency, USA. In addition, we have a high success rate of students progressing on to PhD degrees. With a strong focus on clinical methods of diagnosis, patient management, molecular biological techniques in both research and diagnostic laboratories, our innovative course accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) aims to provide you with both the theoretical and practical aspects of clinical microbiology to further your career in this innovative discipline. Part Time for NHS trust laboratory workers You can choose to study this course full-time for one year or part-time for two years. Students wanting to register on a part-time basis must be affiliated with an NHS trust laboratory whereby they can attend academic lectures at the University of Nottingham on one day release per week from their place of work and conduct their research project in their employer's laboratory.

Assessment method
Forms of assessment include: examinations - essay paper in the form of short answer questions (SAQ) and online multiple-format questions (MFQ); assessed coursework - both written and verbal; practical examination in the Research Methods module; viva voce examination for the Research Project module

Upper second class (2:1) UK honours bachelor degree (or international equivalent) from a recognised institution; Applicants with a lower second class degree (or international equivalent) may be considered on an individual basis; IELTS: 7.0 (no less than 6.0 in any element)
