Physics and Astrophysics at University of Birmingham - UCAS

Course summary

Solve the mysteries of the universe with MSci Physics and Astrophysics. Explore the world of astronomy and advanced concepts of physics. From entropy to observational astronomy mechanics, you’ll be immersed in scientific study, mathematics, computing and experimental work. Develop problem-solving, programming, teamwork and experimental skills ready for a range of exciting careers. You'll develop a broad understanding of the laws that make up the natural world. Learn about quantum mechanics, nuclear physics, the structure of the universe and the life and death of stars. You’ll benefit from using state-of-the-art study spaces, computing suites and a specialist Astro lab that provides astronomical data from observatories around the world. Our research spaces include our own particle accelerators, the MC40 cyclotron for charged particles and HF-ADNeF, the most intense accelerator driven neutron source worldwide, as well as labs used for the construction of the detectors and electronics in experiments at the Large Hadron Collider, CERN. As a Birmingham Physics graduate, you'll have a broad range of options for the future either working directly in a scientific environment or using transferable skills in different roles.
