Course summary

If you are interested in building a rewarding career in the field of health and social care, but do not meet the entry requirements to study our 3-year BSc programme, or are a mature student returning to education, we are pleased to offer our BSc Health and Social Care with a Foundation Year course. The first year of our 4-year course is a foundation year where you will be introduced to the foundations of health and social care and cover key topics that form the basis of the field, including public health, policy, law and ethics, justice and equality. You will build your knowledge and academic skills, and, with successful completion of the course (where you will be required to achieve at least 40% overall), will progress on to year 1 of the 3-year BSc programme. The foundation year (level 3) will be delivered by The College, Swansea University (TCSU). Years 2-4 (levels 4-6) will be delivered by the School of Health and Social Care.

Assessment method

You will be taught through a variety of methods including lectures, workshops, discussion groups, presentations, debates, online discussions, and group and individual learning tasks over 7-10 hours during a three-day period. Learning is assessed through essays, presentations, exams and practical tests. You will have access to an academic mentoring network and student support services throughout your studies. During year two, you will have the opportunity to choose a work placement module with placements available in voluntary organisations, council-based social services, educational services, supported living services, and many others. This course offers some modules taught through the medium of Welsh or bilingually for students who consider themselves to be fluent Welsh speakers and you may also choose to be assessed through the medium of Welsh.
