Course summary
Data science has the potential to change the way we’ll live in the future by solving or offering insights into many of the largest problems of today. On this dynamic course, you’ll learn advanced coding skills to develop state-of-the-art machine learning approaches for AI products and services. You’ll then use these technologies to solve real-world problems relevant to your existing knowledge and expertise. You’ll create intelligent models which can predict future outcomes based on past data, generate artwork, or give you incredible insight into hard-to-find connections within your datasets. Working with data from industries at the forefront of data science today, like biomedicine, finance and social media, you’ll gain a deep understanding of data flows within organisations and systems, and how huge amounts of data can be engineered to produce knowledge. Study Style You’ll learn through practical work and assignments to understand mathematical foundations of statistics, data mining and machine learning. Some more traditional teaching will take place too, but always with a practical focus and tasks designed for you to apply your learning. You’ll start out with the basics, before progressing towards the answers to questions you didn’t know you had. As you learn you’ll be working with industry-standard software and hardware in our specialist labs – alongside students and subject specialists from both creative and technical computing backgrounds – giving you huge opportunities to build networks with the sector-leaders of the future. With guidance from industry experts, you’ll put your skills to the test using real-world data to analyse trends in social media, make financial predictions, and extract musical information from audio files.
