Course summary
This is one of several specialist routes available in our BA (Honours) Social Sciences. You'll study core modules in interdisciplinary social science and sociology, giving you a firm grounding in ideas central to the social sciences. This will be combined with exploring psychology through a range of real-world issues, including love, sexuality and artificial intelligence, before opting to study either social psychology or counselling and forensic psychology. On completion, you’ll be able to apply psychological and social theories to a range of issues, using data analysis and analytical techniques to understand a variety of topics that affect individuals and society. Modules
This degree has three stages. At Stage 1, you’ll begin with a broad introductory module exploring key concepts, evidence and sources of knowledge in the social sciences, examining topics from criminology, development, economics, geography, politics, philosophy, religious studies, and sociology. The second module will introduce you to key issues in psychology, as well as important theories and methods that help psychologists understand how individuals and society interact. At Stage 2, you’ll explore how the social world is being transformed by the internet and digital technology. You’ll also cover a range of psychological theories and research relating to real-world issues – including sexuality, artificial intelligence, superstition, psychic phenomena, conspiracy theories and psychopathy. At Stage 3, you’ll choose from a range of social science modules. You’ll complete your degree by either exploring the relationship between counselling and forensic psychology or investigating contemporary lives through different social psychological approaches.
