Course summary

The use of drugs and alcohol can be a misunderstood and emotive topic and it is important to have up to date knowledge, skills and understanding in order to more effectively support those affected by their own use. If you are interested in working in this sector, or are already directly or indirectly supporting individuals experiencing issues related to drug abuse and alcohol abuse, this course is for you. This courses will help you develop skills to work with people who are seeking to recover from addiction. You will increase your knowledge of substances and their effects, and the consequences for health, society and life opportunities. You will improve your skills and confidence when working with people affected by substance misuse and will have a greater empathy and understanding of the causes of problematic use and how best to offer support and encourage positive behaviour change. This course will provide opportunities to gain employment in with voluntary agencies dealing with substance misuse and as an advice worker in the Health and Social Care sector and Social Services. Modules include: Legislation and Policies, Using Research in Health and Social Care Practice, Reflective Practice, Interagency Working in Substance Misuse, Current Issues, Addictions.
