Course summary

Public health is the science and art of protecting and improving the health of people and their communities. A Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Glasgow allows you to develop the knowledge and skills needed to make a difference. WHY THIS PROGRAMME

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE Public Health students at the University of Glasgow benefit from learning within a research-intense environment, with staff working in various areas linked to Public Health. Students will engage with interactive lectures, small group tutorials and seminars, computer labs and practical sessions, self-directed learning, online learning, and supervision. Students undertake a variety of assessments, including essays, reports, practical skills coursework, and presentations. The MPH degree may be obtained with or without a specialism. Specialisms require an additional core course, and the dissertation must be on a suitable topic. Those interested in a specialism should apply for the general MPH programme and a specialism can be chosen during the induction week. MPH students take three core courses, three optional courses, and a supervised, 60 credit, self-directed research project. Core Courses Introduction to Epidemiology and Statistics Master of Public Health Research Project Principles of Public Health Research Methods Additional core courses for specific specialisms: MPH with Data Science: Real-world data in health care decision making MPH with Epidemiology: Advanced Epidemiology MPH with Health Economics: Health Economics for HTA online MPH with Health Promotion: Health Promotion: Principles and Practice Optional Courses (three courses chosen) Students undertaking the MPH will take three optional courses. Students on a specialism will take an additional two courses. Advanced Epidemiology Advanced Statistics Communicable Diseases Geography of Health and Health Inequalities Globalisation And Public Health Health Economics for HTA online Health Promotion: Principles and Practice Managing Healthcare Organisations Oral Health Planetary Health Qualitative Research Methods Sexual Health and Wellbeing Social Determinants of Health There is also the option to take shorter qualifications in the forms of a Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate; please see the course page on our website for more details.


How to apply

International applicants

International applicant information can be found via gla.ac.uk by searching for 'international'. Classes start in September and you may be expected to attend induction sessions the week before.

Entry requirements

2.1 Hons (or non-UK equivalent) in any degree with a science focus, including Health Science, Medicine, Social and Public Policy, or Statistics. We may also accept applicants with significant relevant work experience in addition to lower qualifications. We may also accept non-relevant degrees where the applicant has evidence of paid or unpaid relevant Public Health experience at a professional level.
