Course summary

This accessible and rewarding course explores the literature, language, art and archaeology of the ancient Greek and Roman worlds. The topics that you will cover include the Homeric epics, Athenian tragedy and its reception in the modern world, Roman poetry and politics, and the archaeology of Pompeii and Roman Britain. You will also study classical Latin. Key features of the course

Modules

This diploma has two stages, each comprising two modules. Stage 1 consists of an introductory module in the arts and humanities, before choosing between studying about either culture or revolutions throughout history. Next, in Stage 2, you’ll study two compulsory Classical studies modules. You’ll deepen your understanding of the literature, history, art and material culture of the classical world, and learn the essentials of Latin. You’ll also develop your skills of writing essays and analysing ancient sources as diverse as poems, inscriptions, graffiti, coins, mosaics and paintings.
