Course summary

At the forefront of innovative visual practice and pushing the boundaries on working with moving image and hybrid digital outputs, our BA (Hons) Digital Art degree at UCA Farnham is an art course with a difference. Influenced by a range of global contemporary practices, this course provides the opportunity to build a broad range of moving image and digital skills and to push the limits of technology to develop innovative ideas fit for the industry. There are thematic core units that include critically informed research-led lectures, a range of practical workshops and introductory critical and creative tasks. Throughout, you’ll be encouraged to collaborate, socialise and share ideas within your learning community and develop your own independent creative practice. There’s also a strong focus on employability that runs across the curriculum, and we’ll support you to identify potential career trajectories and prepare you for your working life. Related courses

Modules

In Year 1 you'll learn the fundamental digital skills in still and moving image through practical projects, and develop your contextual and research skills for creative work. You’ll learn the key skills for production through workshops, screenings and seminars, and practical exercises. Also, you’ll explore a range of key concepts central to an understanding of historical and contemporary moving image visual culture, from celluloid film to games and digital media. In Year 2 you'll critically examine the emerging theoretical and aesthetic debates associated with new media technologies and their relationship with more traditional visual cultures. In Year 3 you'll research , propose and undertake pre-production work for your final project. You'll produce a fully resolved body of work, and also a dissertation on a subject related to the contextual and/or theoretical concerns of your area of practice.

This course considers applicants for direct entry into year two or three. To enter directly into year two/three, you’ll need to have studied 120/240 credits in a similar subject area or have work experience equivalent to one/two years of study. We require evidence of your English language ability to meet the requirements for your course. If you're a Home student and studied in the UK, we require GCSE English at a minimum grade C/4 (or Functional Skills English/Key Skills Communication Level 2). If you’re an EU student and studied a European qualification, we may accept the English Language score from your main qualification - please review your country from the list on our website to see whether we will accept it: https://www.uca.ac.uk/international-study/equivalent-qualifications/ If your qualification is not on this list, we accept the following English language qualifications: IELTS (overall score 6.0), TOEFL ibt (overall score 88), PEARSON PTE Academic (overall 55), Cambridge Proficiency Exam (overall score 169), Cambridge Advanced Exam (overall score 169). If you need a Tier 4 student visa to study in the UK, you will need to take an IELTS test, and achieve an overall score of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 for each element (Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing).
