Course summary
Our Urdang BA (Hons) Professional Dance and Musical Theatre degree is a Triple Threat degree equipping you with skills highly regarded in the performing arts industry, including musicals (West End and touring), dance companies, television, theatre and education. As part of your study with us you’ll enjoy a variety of performance opportunities, including dance productions, musicals and off site showcases. This includes the opportunity to take part in full-length public productions of musicals, an agent/industry showcase and the annual Summer Show. Choose your specialism from year 2 with our 3 track pathways: Triple Threat, Singing/acting and dance based focuses. Benefit from working with professional performers working in the field, sharing their expertise, guidance and networks. Keep your training up to date and meeting industry expectations with Urdang’s links with practising professionals, choreographers and directors. Train in a professional environment, preparing you for a range of performance-related careers. Urdang Students have gone on to work in the West End, national and international theatre, TV and feature films, as choreographers, and dancing for major arena tours.
Modules
In your first year you will be trained in dancing, singing and acting to develop fundamental skills required for dance and musical theatre. In your second year you will have the chance to specialise in your chosen study track alongside the core modules. In your third year you continue your track of study and take part in public performances. The Track options for second year onwards include: Track A: triple threat training; singing, acting and dance. Track B: dance-based focus. Track C: singing/acting focus. Applicants will be required to successfully pass an audition at Urdang before being offered a place on this course.
Additional entry requirements
Audition
All applicants must complete an audition with Urdang and you can sign up for this via https://application.urdang.city.ac.uk/student/?page=login After sending in an application form with personal details and your headshot, you will be allocated a first-round audition date with all the details you need. If your audition is successful, you will either be offered a place on our Degree course OR be invited back to a recall audition. Alongside the audition process, you will also have to make a separate UCAS application. Urdang and City, University of London will send out confirmation of your offer if you are successful with the academic conditions of your offer via email and your UCAS record will be updated. You must log in to your Urdang account to provisionally accept or decline your place within 14 days OR inform them you may need more time to consider. You must also accept or decline your place on UCAS or select us as your insurance place. There is a deadline for applicants, but if the university or college still has places available you can apply after this date, but your application is not guaranteed to be considered.
