Course summary
Clinical Exercise Physiology focuses on using exercise as medicine for treating and managing health conditions and rehabilitating patients recovering from illness. Accredited by the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS), it is one of only two programmes in the UK with this recognition. Successful completion, including clinical assessments and 140 placement hours, qualifies you to register as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist with AHCS. You’ll gain an advanced understanding of the pathophysiology and aetiology of various disease states within Clinical Exercise Physiology (e.g., cancer, cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurological conditions). You’ll also learn to support patients in adopting healthier lifestyles and self-managing long-term health conditions. When you first arrive, you will develop practical skills in disease marker assessment and exercise prescription. You will also gain hands-on experience with advanced physiological and health assessment equipment in our Exercise Physiology Laboratory. You will:

Assessment method
Assessment methods vary by module and include clinical assessment of competencies (CEP-UK), case studies (both written and oral presentations), viva voce, literature reviews, practical assessments, placement-based assessments, and journal articles (research reports written in the format of a journal article).

Entry requirements
This programme is ideal if you want to work, or are already working, with applied science in a clinical setting, to improve your patients' or clients' health through physiological assessment and exercise.
