Modules

Teaching is delivered through MyAberdeen, our online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It holds all the materials, tools and support you’ll need in your studies.  There are six live online tutorials for each of the 30-credit courses that make up this degree. Attendance is compulsory for these sessions, as they’re an important part of your learning. Tutorial times will be organised flexibly at the start of each course. Your coordinator will consider everyone’s circumstances and time zones before setting up times that best suit the class.

Assessment method

This degree is assessed entirely online via: essays, book reviews, discussion boards, practical assignments, creative assessment, e.g. poster presentations and creative writing.

Entry requirements

A 2:2 UK honours degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent qualifications. You’re also welcome to apply if you have: other relevant qualifications, and professional experience with supportive references.

To study for a postgraduate degree at the University of Aberdeen it is essential that you can speak, understand, read, and write academic English fluently. These skills will allow you to understand lectures, produce high standards of written work, and perform well in examinations. We can assess your English language proficiency through a variety of means: through your nationality, through the qualifications you gained in high school, through the degree you undertook or are undertaking at university, or through a recognised English language test. Postgraduate Higher requirements are used by the Schools of Business; Divinity, History and Philosophy; Education; Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture; Law; and Social Sciences. The MSc in Oil and Gas Enterprise Management and the MSc in Integrated Petroleum Geoscience also make use of the Postgraduate Higher requirements. Please note certification must be within the two years prior to commencement of your degree programme, unless otherwise stated.

Additional fee information

This indicative cost is based on 180 credits of study over three years, starting in January 2026. The fees quoted above are based on you starting your studies with us in the 2025/26 academic year. Our tuition fees will rise by 3% for the 2026/27, 2027/28 and 2028/29 academic years. Our indicative cost includes a 3% fee rise each year.
