Course summary
The Higher National Certificate in Quantity Surveying with HTQ status is for anyone looking to develop their understanding of their specialist technical knowledge in Quantity Surveying, enhance their understanding of construction practice, management, estimating and costing. The qualification will lead to the award 'BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Quantity Surveying giving students the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to achieve high performance in the national and international construction environment. The course is an ideal stepping stone for those for those with ambitions of working within Surveying in a professional, managerial or technical capacity. What are Higher Technical Qualifications: These qualifications have been developed by awarding bodies, who have worked with employers and businesses to make sure that students get the specific training, knowledge, and skills they need for their chosen career.
Modules
To gain the Quantity Surveying for England HTQ Level 4 HNC EDEXCEL qualification you must achieve a minimum of 120 mandatory credits of which 105 are mandatory core units consisting of Construction Design Project Construction Environment Measurement and Estimating Tender and Procurement Construction Economics and Sustainability Quantity Surveying Practice Law & Legal Frameworks in Quantity Surveying The remainder credits are achieved through optional modules of either Digital Applications for Construction Information or Digital Applications for Building Information Modelling.
Assessment method
All modules are assessed by assignments; each unit's assessment is matched to the content of the unit. Each unit can be assessed at Pass, Merit or Distinction levels, which are combined at the end of the qualification to give an overall grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction for the qualification.

Interview
All applicants are required to attend an interview and will be notified of the date and time via email, a text reminder is also sent the day before the interview. Applicants applying from outside the West Midlands alternative interview arrangements can be made for you, but we strongly encourage all prospective applicants come along to view Solihull College and University Centre’s facilities and meet the teaching teams. As part of your interview and possibly your offer you will be required to provide your original certificates, including GCSE’s or equivalents.
Institutions Own Test (IOT)
Applicants who do not meet the standard entry criteria but have appropriate industry and life experiences will have their prior learning and skills taken into account and maybe required to complete an Aptitude assessment (this will be advised at interview).
English language requirements
Students who are non-native English speakers, or who have not studied the final two years of school in English, but can demonstrate capability in English at a standard commensurate to IELTS 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 being awarded on individual sections for a level 4, 5 or 6 qualification, will be considered as eligible to apply for the programme/course.
