You’ll explore the social, cultural, and political contexts of crime, key criminological theories, and the criminal justice process on this thought-provoking criminology degree. You'll also delve into the intersection of social factors with crime and victimisation, through current criminological research. As part of this course, you’ll:

The modules you’ll study will reflect the dynamic research interests of our lecturers, ensuring a rich teaching experience that goes beyond traditional textbooks. You’ll learn from experts in fields such as anti-social behaviour, prisons, desistence, race and crime, and sexual offending. Our teaching staff are members of the university’s Centre for Applied Social Research and are actively contributing to ongoing research and policy developments. As part of your criminology courses, you’ll benefit from valuable insights and professional experiences by guest practitioners. Previous speakers have included police officers, magistrates, addiction specialists, psychologists, and social workers, all of whom share their expertise to enrich your learning. Enhancing your career potential As a student in the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, you’ll be prompted to consider your future career from start of your learning journey. Guidance on potential criminology degree jobs will be built into your first year. During your second and third years, you’ll have the opportunity to choose modules that incorporate live brief learning challenges (real-world projects created by employers) and engage in work placement experiences.
