Our BA Education Studies: Primary degree programme is designed to develop your understanding and skills for the education sector. Our programme is one of the very few in the UK dedicated to studying education in the primary school sector. Modules
In your first year, you will explore the foundations of education through a diverse range of modules exploring educational development, learning theory and practice and children’s rights. Education: past, present, future (20 credits) Development across the lifespan (20 credits) Learning theory and practice (20 credits) Respecting Children and Young People's Rights in Wales (20 credits) All things being equal? (20 credits) Developing Successful Academic Skills (20 credits) The second year focuses on inclusive education and practical skills. Additionally, a module focussing on the Three Rs will enhance your understanding of core primary education subjects. All Means All (20 credits) Alternative learning environments (20 credits) Becoming a Primary Educator (20 credits) The Three Rs (20 credits) The Enquiring Mind: Creative Approaches to Teaching and Learning (20 credits) Educational Research (20 credits) In your final year, you will undertake an Independent Project, allowing you to research a topic of interest in depth. You will also explore curriculum and assessment studies and topics looking into the impacts on children’s learning experiences. Assessment method
Students present work in numerous ways to enable them to develop their team skills, as well as independent learning skills. Assessments include problem learning-based scenarios, group presentations, academic poster presentations, portfolios, written assignments and individual seminar presentations. There are no examinations.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

If you are not from the UK and you do not already have residency here, you may need to apply for a visa. For courses of more than six months’ duration you will require a Student visa. If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.0, with not less than 5.5 in each of the sub-tests. We also accept other English language tests.
