Course summary

The LLM in Corporate & Financial Law provides a specialist focus on transactions, markets and global regulatory issues. Modern lawyers need to understand the structure and interplay of both corporate and financial law both at domestic and international level. WHY THIS PROGRAMME

  • You will focus on key areas such as the legal framework for debt and equity finance, corporate governance and financial regulation.
  • The programme covers both the private law focus on the structuring of individual transactions, and the public law focus on the regulation of financial institutions and markets.
  • You will be taught by a team of academics with practical experience of transactions and regulatory issues.
  • You will benefit from the combined experience of a lecturing team representing a rich diversity of professional and international backgrounds. Theorists and practitioners, litigators and consultants, our lecturers come from more than half-a-dozen countries, including Greece, Spain, UK and South Africa.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE You will take six courses and submit a dissertation as falling within the area. Courses are delivered through a blend of lectures and seminar-style teaching. You are required to take at least five core courses and one optional course. The optional course can be chosen from the core course list or other courses within the School of Law's LLM portfolio. Please note, enrolment on courses is subject to availability and timetabling. For the dissertation, you can choose between a written dissertation or a collaborative dissertation research project with a partner organisation. Please note, the collaborative dissertation option is subject to availability. Most of our courses include perspectives on professional practice and some also include experiential learning activities, such as analysis of case studies. These activities are designed to consolidate your understanding of key theoretical concepts by putting them into practice in real-world contexts, and to give you practical experience with documents, drafting skills and analytical frameworks used in a professional environment.

Entry requirements

2.1 Hons (or non-UK equivalent) in Law (LLB or LLM) or other subject with at least 50% of the credits in Law. We may also accept degrees in subjects with a minor in Law. International students with academic qualifications below those required should contact our partner institution, Glasgow International College, who offer a range of pre-Masters courses.
