Course Aims and Learning Outcomes This course is designed to give students the opportunity to: • Make effective use of knowledge and understanding of the disciplines within the sports industry. • Demonstrate a broad range of academic and professional skills to be successful within Higher Education. • Review the application of the social and cultural meanings attached to sport and their impact on participation and regulation. • Employ strategic and development planning skills in reflecting, understanding and addressing growth for academic and professional development. What students will learn: Knowledge • Demonstrate the core academic and personal skills to be successful at Higher Education. • Develop a foundation of subject knowledge within the sports industry. • Explain the key roles, responsibilities and professional requirements within the sports industry. Thinking skills • Plan and strategise to enrich personal, professional and academic development. • Self-Reflect on skills and qualities to enhance academic and professional development • Apply and utilise theory, concepts and information to support academic and subject specific context. Subject-Based Practical skills • Demonstrate the required roles, responsibilities and behaviours within academic studies and the professional industry. • Apply appropriate use of sources, tools and processes to evidence the development of academic and professional skills and knowledge. Skills for life and work (general skills) • Apply reflective processes to assess quality of academic work and performance. • Work effectively individually and in groups when undertaking projects and tasks. • Establish positive relationships, behaviours and leadership skills within academic studies and the professional industry. Learning and Teaching Students will be introduced to the module content relating to subject knowledge and academic skills required to study efficiently and confidently within Higher Education. Learning will occur predominantly via face to face delivery, requiring students to engage in taught lectures and seminars. These sessions will involve individual and group tasks, project work and knowledge based activities and will require students to take responsibility for their own learning. There are opportunities to enhance application of knowledge and skills in practical-based activities, in addition to using virtual learning environments. To support academic development, students will apply reflective theories / processes to assess academic performance and professional skills in order to be successful within their field. This will be sustained by incorporating evidence based activities, action planning and research projects for students to demonstrate progress and action further development. Formative feedback and support will be accessible to the students within taught activities and assessments to enhance academic and professional development

Assessment method

A range of assessment types are used across this course, as appropriate to each module. Assessment is predominantly continuous, employing items that will include academic essays, reports, presentations, portfolios, reflective writing, as well as practical broadcast outputs. Applied assessment tasks are used as far as possible to enable students to link theory with practice, thereby assessing knowledge and understanding alongside practical study-specific skills and key industry skills. Students with disabilities and/or particular learning needs should discuss assessments with the Course Leader, Module Leader and Seminar Leaders to ensure they are able to fully engage with all assessment within the course.

Qualified teacher status (QTS)
