Course summary
This course will provide you with a broad knowledge of engineering principles and methodology, supported by the development of analytical and research skills to prepare you for employment opportunities in the Mechanical Engineering field or further study at HND/degree level. Emphasis will be placed upon reflection, analysis, environmental impact, critical thinking and personal development. Modules will cover engineering design, maths and science, how to manage a professional engineering project and fundamentals of Thermodynamics and Heat Engines and Computer Aided Design (CAD) for Engineering amongst others.

Entry to this course requires a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Engineering and a minimum of 80 UCAS points. GCSE Mathematics and English at Grades A – C or equivalent. Or A minimum of 80 UCAS points including at least one Level 3 qualification in Maths, Physics or Computer Science. GCSE Mathematics and English at Grades A – C or equivalent. Or An Access to Higher Education Certificate in an Engineering discipline awarded by an approved further education institution. The School of Engineering welcomes applications from candidates who do not meet the above criteria, in this case applicants will be invited to an interview at which they will be expected to provide a portfolio demonstrating their suitability for entrance to the course.
