Course summary
This degree is an ideal choice for students who want to gain the knowledge, skills, and experience to work in health and social care and make a positive difference to the lives of marginalised people. The health and social care sector is constantly changing to meet the complex needs of people in society; this course, developed and taught by experts in the field guides students through these complexities and leads to a wide range of career and postgraduate opportunities. An interest in health and wellbeing leads our students to study a wide variety of topics from mental health to criminal justice, social care to public health, domestic abuse to homelessness. We encourage our students to consider how we develop through the life cycle, how individuals and society are affected by poverty and inequality, and the opportunities and challenges of an increasingly globalised and technological world. - This course includes 240 hours of Work Like Experience such as placements, volunteering, live projects or employer-led simulations.
- With a wide range of optional modules to choose from, you'll be able to tailor your learning based on your interests in both your second and final years.
- In 2022, NTU had the highest UCAS applications and acceptances to Health and Social Care courses in the UK.
Modules
Year One modules include Foundations in Health and Social Care, Current Issues in Health and Social Care, Social Policy for Health and Social Care, Working with People, Preparing for Practice and Human Growth and Development. Year Two modules include Research in Health and Social Care, Managing Health and Social Care, Professional Practice, Person Centred Interventions. Optional modules include Making Sense of Health Improvement, Engaging with Vulnerable Groups, Mental Health and Well Being and Health, Social Care and Crime. Final Year modules include Individual Research Project and Leadership in Health and Social Care. Optional modules include Children's and Young People's Mental Health, Healthy Places, Healthy People, Young People and Social Care, Health Promotion in Practice, Global Health and Development and Ageing in the 21st Century.
Assessment method
The majority of your work will be assessed through: coursework-based essays reports examinations individual and group presentations your work experience portfolio a final year research-based dissertation. There will also be practical assessments, which will include: group and individual presentations video exercises poster presentations IT-based exercises. In response to student feedback the University has introduced a policy ensuring marked work is returned to you electronically within three weeks of submission.

Tuition fees for 2025 entry are yet to be confirmed. As a guide and to enable you to plan your finances, the fees for Home undergraduate students for 2024 are £9250. The current expectation is that the University may increase this for future and subsequent years of study in line with inflation and as specified by the Government.
