Our Mathematics (Pure Mathematics) degree integrates a thorough study of the three core disciplines—pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics—with specialist final-year topics in pure mathematics. The programme also prioritises the development of problem-solving, logical reasoning, practical, and employability skills that are highly valued by employers. During your first year, you will build a strong foundation in mathematical thinking with modules in algebra, calculus, and differential equations, whilst developing your skills in data analysis using the statistical software R. You will also begin to develop key employability skills by working in teams on group projects, solving problems and communicating your findings in visual ways. Throughout the programme you’ll apply your learning to real-world theories or experiences, providing context to your learning and strengthening your understanding. You’ll also have the chance to align your studies to your passions by choosing from a variety of optional modules. Focusing on your employability skills, you will have the opportunity to spend time in industry with both full time and modular placement opportunities. You will also build on your professional and transferable skills with extended problem work, report writing, effective communication of mathematical results, and collaboration with others.
