Course summary
Our integrated qualification provides the opportunity to explore civil engineering and construction to master’s level. You’ll develop strong leadership skills and learn to manage construction projects from design to completion. You’ll explore core areas of civil engineering combined with in-depth knowledge of planning, organisation and construction methods in building design. You will learn with staff active in consultancy and research, with opportunities to get involved in lecturer’s research as part of your studies. Our research strengths include earthquake engineering dynamics and design, advanced geotechnics and rock mechanics, bridge engineering and advanced hydraulics. Fieldwork, site visits, and projects run with our industry partners give you hands-on experience. You’ll work with students in interdisciplinary project teams on industry-based scenarios, ranging from design briefs to real-world case studies. The option of a salaried placement year and the opportunity to learn Building Information Modelling (BIM) will give you professional advantage. There is also the opportunity to study abroad in your third year. Our civil engineering courses are accredited by The Joint Board of Moderators (JBM), formed of five professional bodies; the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, (CIHT), the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) and the Permanent Way Institution (PWI).
