Modules
Year 1 (Level 4): Foundations of Accounting and Finance In the first year, you’ll build essential knowledge in accounting, finance, and economics, developing analytical skills and business awareness to support future specialisation. Modules: Principles of Economics – Introduction to core micro and macroeconomic concepts, including supply and demand, inflation, and their impact on business strategy. Includes use of digital tools for economic data analysis. Accounting for Business – Covers basic accounting principles such as double-entry bookkeeping, financial statements, and sources of finance. Develops skills in financial data analysis and decision-making. Introduction to Management Accounting – Focuses on cost behaviour, budgeting, performance evaluation, and control. Teaches financial interpretation to support strategic goals through real-world applications. Financial Analytics – Provides foundational skills in financial data analysis using spreadsheets and basic coding tools. Covers statistical methods and analytical techniques to support financial decision-making. Year 2 (Level 5): Applied Knowledge and Strategic Insight Year two deepens your understanding through financial reporting standards, legal frameworks, and corporate finance, preparing you for more complex analysis and professional readiness. Modules: Corporate Finance and Valuation – Explores capital budgeting, financing, valuation models, and strategic financial decision-making through theory and real-world case studies. Financial Reporting and Business Law – Combines technical financial reporting (IFRS standards, complex transactions, single-entity statements) with key legal topics (contracts, corporate law, ethics, insolvency). Management Accounting – Advances your skills in budgeting, variance analysis, strategic control, and performance measurement. Introduces risk management and non-financial indicators for strategic planning. Taxation – Provides a foundation in UK taxation, covering personal and business tax, the role of HMRC, and ethical considerations in tax compliance and planning. Year 3 (Level 6): Professional Application and Strategic Leadership In your final year, you'll apply advanced knowledge in real-world contexts through modules focused on financial markets, auditing, reporting, and a consultancy project. Modules: Advanced Financial Reporting – Focuses on IFRS application in complex situations, including group accounts and consolidated financial statements. Includes ratio analysis and sustainability in accounting. Audit and Assurance – Covers audit principles, ethics, risk assessment, and internal control. You’ll learn to design audit plans, gather evidence, and address regulatory and professional challenges. Consultancy Project – A practical, client-facing project where you research a real business issue and develop evidence-based solutions. Includes project planning, report writing, and professional reflection. Financial Markets – Examines global financial markets including equities, debt, forex, and derivatives. Topics include trading mechanisms, behavioural finance, macroeconomic impacts, and ESG considerations. Assessment method
During our Accounting and Finance degree, you will learn through a mix of face-to-face and online classes, seminars, short, recorded lectures, and guided reading. You can also book one-to-one support with tutors via Microsoft Teams to help with assignments and module content.
