Course summary
The Higher National Diploma Top-Up in Art and Design (Photography) is a one-year course that builds on previous learning from the Level 4 Higher National Certificate. The course takes an advanced dive in to the artistic, technical, and conceptual aspects of photographic art. Students refine their practical, academic and research skills whilst exploring specialist areas of photography in greater detail and developing skills in art direction and videography. Study is set with a vocational bias and skills and knowledge are developed through practical and theoretical sessions. The focus is on developing in-demand skills to prepare students for professional life. Studio, darkroom, art direction, and video all feature in the programme. Alongside the many practical skills gained, students develop professional and collaborative skills, whilst improving reflective practice and evaluation. Students also gain transferable skills in areas such as problem solving, numeracy, IT and communication.
