Course summary

Major research projects include: cancer biology; transmembrane signalling; control of cellular metabolism, growth, differentiation and apoptosis using nuclear magnetic resonance, molecular biology and biochemical methodology; bacterial virulence; biosynthesis, regulation and mode of action of antibiotics; protein folding and protein engineering; macromolecular assemblies; nuclear magnetic resonance and x-ray studies of protein structure and protein-DNA interactions; protein targeting to organelles; function of clathrin-coated vesicles; molecular biology and evolution of photosynthetic bacteria; bacteriophage biology; toxin-antitoxin systems; chemical biology; synthetic biology; systems biology; enzymology; molecular embryology; chromatin structure and activation of transcription; molecular biology of cell adhesion and of spermatogenesis and mRNA translation and splicing.

Entry requirements

Applicants for this course should have achieved a UK Good II.i Honours Degree. If your degree is not from the UK, please check International Qualifications to find the equivalent in your country. You must secure the support of a supervisor/group leader within a laboratory before you submit your application. Although it does not guarantee you an offer of admission, you cannot submit your application without it.
