Course summary

Explore marine biology and how it interrelates with the entire spectrum of marine science. On your four-year integrated Marine Biology with Oceanography masters, accredited by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), you will develop your intellectual, practical and fieldwork skills in the collection, analysis, interpretation, and understanding of marine biological and oceanographic data. You will study at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS), one of the world’s largest centres devoted to research, teaching, and technology development in ocean and Earth science. You will spend a significant amount of time on our research vessels carrying out boat-based field work and getting hands on experience out in the field. You will be able to put the knowledge and skills you develop into practice by carrying out your very own original research project in your final year, at the heart of one of our specialist research groups. You will have the opportunity to expand your study skills and broaden your field research in the UK and abroad. You will also join an Ocean and Earth Science community ranked 8th in the UK and 39th globally, QS World Rankings by Subject (Earth and Marine Science) 2023 and graduate primed to pursue an extensive range of careers. 98% of Ocean and Earth Science graduates were in employment or further study 15 months after graduation (Graduate Outcomes 2020/2021).
