Course summary
This course will prepare you for life as a secondary teacher, with the skills and knowledge to influence the lives of the young people you teach. Our PGDE Secondary Teaching courses are offered in partnership with Argyll and Bute, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Highland, Moray, Orkney Islands and Shetland Islands councils, each working with the university through their local campus. The programme is also offered in partnership with Scottish Borders council, with applicants based in the Borders and registered through Inverness College UHI. The PGDE (Secondary) consists of 18 weeks study at the university plus 19 weeks in professional practice in schools. For 2019 entry the following subjects are being offered: Biology, Business Education, Chemistry and Science, Computing Science, English, Home Economics, Mathematics, Music (at our Shetland Campus only), Physics and Science and Technical Education . In addition, the subject of Gaelic is available at our campuses in Argyll, Inverness and Lews Castle College UHI.

Qualification requirements
Applicants should hold a relevant degree at undergraduate level or above. Preference will be given to those possessing a degree at Honours level, although consideration will also be given to those holding ordinary degrees. Please note: There are subject specific entry guidelines for secondary teaching stipulated by GTC Scotland. Details of these are available in the Frequently Asked Questions document on the University website. This course does not accept applications for deferred entry. Applicants must provide details of their degree, English and Mathematics qualifications within the application, as failure to do so will lead to automatic rejection. Successful applicants will be required to complete a PVG Disclosure Check and become PVG Scheme Members in order to undertake this course. Applicants who have lived outside the UK for a period of six or more consecutive months in the past 10 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check(s) from all the relevant country(-ies) prior to enrolment on the programme.
