Course summary

This course aims to provide you with a solid grounding for building a career in financial management and accounting if you are unable to follow the more traditional route onto a degree course. The foundation year of the course provides you with opportunities to develop fundamental knowledge and skill set in a range of mathematical and business principles, as well as the theories and concepts involved in investment risk and professional ethics. The Financial Management and Accounting BA (Hons) degree aims to further enhance your knowledge of mathematical and business principles, as well as the theories and concepts involved in investment risk and professional ethics. Upon graduation, this course could open doors to a wide range of career opportunities in roles such as chartered and certified accountant, finance and investment analyst, taxation expert, and financial manager and advisor. If you choose to leave the degree course after successfully passing Year 1, you will be eligible for a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Financial Management and Accounting. If you choose to leave the degree course after successfully passing Year 2, you will be eligible for a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Financial Management and Accounting. In the foundation year, the modules are: Academic Skills for Accounting and Finance Accounting and Spreadsheets Investment and Risk Cost, Revenue and Professional Ethics During the degree part of the course, the modules are: Year 1: Financial Marketing and Regulation Economics for Accounting and Finance Law for Business Entities Financial Statements and Budgeting Year 2: Managing Corporate Finance Financial Reporting (International Standards) Corporate Governance and Risk Introduction to Islamic Finance and Investment Final year: Compliance and Assurance Taxation for Business Entities Strategic Performance Management Research Proposal in Accounting and Finance

Qualification requirements

Applicants who do not have Level 3 (A-level or equivalent) qualifications. We can considered on an individual basis provided that you have 5 GCSEs at grade 4 / C or above including English and Mathematics plus two years relevant work experience. Your application will be considered on an individual basis and the application is reviewed as a whole, which includes previous and predicted qualifications, experience, reference and Personal statement that outlines your motivation to study the course. The University also accepts the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate/BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma and BTEC Level 3 National Diploma/BTEC Level 3 Diploma for entry onto degree programmes, provided that they are studied in combination with other qualifications that are equivalent to three A2 Levels. This may include subject specific requirements where necessary.
