Course summary

The MA Filmmaking course equips you with both practical and theoretical knowledge essential for the film industry. You’ll gain hands-on experience in screenwriting, directing, cinematography, and editing, which are crucial for creating a professional portfolio. This approach ensures that you graduate job-ready, meeting industry demands. You will:

  • Work in our Creative Industries Building, which we share with BBC Wales
  • Use state-of-the-art facilities, such as our TV Studio with a Green Screen, Podcasting Studios, and Recording/ Production Studios
  • Have access to modern cameras and audio recording equipment
  • Benefit from our partnership with Avid and Blackmagic (DaVinci Resolve), offering access to related short courses at no extra cost
  • Learn from academics with industry experience, who are currently active scholars or researchers. This affords the opportunity to learn from staff who have first-hand experience of the Creative Industries.
Key course features During each academic year, there are opportunities to get industry experience by supporting professional production work with the broad range of clients who utilise our TV Studio. The course offers numerous opportunities to collaborate and develop work with fellow course students as well as students from other disciplines such as Game students and Music and Sound Production students. Throughout the course, you’ll use dedicated film production and editing spaces. The course culminates in a Final Project, where there is an opportunity to develop industry facing work that can support your next steps into your career.
