Course summary

The Foundation Degree in Sportsturf and Applied Turfgrass Science has been designed to enable students to achieve a higher education qualification with a practical focus. It has been developed in partnership with industry experts and is fully endorsed by the Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG). Students are eligible to apply for membership of the IOG upon completion of the course.

Modules

Year 1 - Academic and Vocational Skills; Essential Plant and Soil Science; Principles and Practices of Turfgrass Management (double module); Turfgrass Growth and Development; Performance Management of Sportsturf Surfaces. Year 2 - Research Methods; Environmental Plant Physiology; Industry Project; Integrated Pest Management; Environmental Management and Sustainability; Sportsturf Surface Construction and Drainage Systems.

Entry requirements

Qualification requirements

Normally 5 GCSEs Including Maths and English (or equivalents) are required, however, applicants are advised to check with the University Centre if they do not possess the specific qualifications. The University Centre may consider applicants with work experience within a relevant industry in place of some qualifications. Applicants who believe they may be eligible for Accreditation of Prior Certificated and/or Experiential Learning (APCL/APEL) will be considered on an individual basis. If you have any queries in relation to entry qualifications, then please contact the University Centre directly.
